Bookmark printing is one of the smallest jobs we run and one of the most common. Libraries, bookstores, schools, churches and authors doing a signing all order them, usually two hundred fifty to a thousand at a time on a two by seven inch card stock, sometimes rounded corners, sometimes a hole punched for a ribbon or tassel. We print bookmark jobs on the same digital press we use for business cards, so a short run does not slow anything down. Most customers bring one design and ask for a light lamination so the bookmark holds up in a backpack or a purse without curling at the edges over time.

Send us a PDF and we run a file check before anything goes on press. We build a proof from your actual file, not a template, so the fonts and colors on the proof match what comes off the press. We also take AI, INDD, PSD, JPG, Word documents and Canva exports if PDF is not an option, though PDF prints the cleanest and avoids font substitution once the file hits our press. If your bookmark design has a bleed or a thin white border, we flag it on the proof so you catch it before we cut, not after five hundred copies are done.

Get your file to us by 10 AM and most bookmark orders are ready by 3:30 PM, cut to size and laminated if you asked for it. Bigger runs, over a few thousand pieces, can push into the next morning and we tell you that up front when you drop off the file, not after we have already started the run. We offer pickup and delivery anywhere in the Valley, and the afternoon van usually leaves the shop around 2 PM.

We are on Ventura Blvd in Encino, just west of Balboa, and plenty of our bookmark orders come from Sherman Oaks, Studio City and Woodland Hills as much as from Encino itself. Schools ordering for a book fair, a church printing a memorial bookmark for a service, an author doing a signing at a Valley bookstore. There is no minimum order, so a run of fifty gets the same attention as a run of two thousand, and we keep the file on record so a reorder next semester is one email or text instead of starting the design over from scratch.

The most common bookmark mistake we catch on proof is a file built without bleed, meaning the color or image does not extend far enough past the trim line. When we cut two by seven inch bookmarks from a larger sheet, even a small shift in the cutter leaves a thin white sliver on one edge if there is no bleed to cut into. We flag this on the PDF proof before printing and either extend the file for you or ask you to resend it with an eighth inch bleed, whichever gets you to your deadline faster without a second round of proofing.

Lamination changes how a bookmark feels and how long it lasts. Gloss lamination is what most bookstores and libraries ask for, it is durable and cheap to run at volume. Soft touch lamination costs a little more and gives the bookmark a matte, almost fabric feel, which authors doing a signing tend to prefer because it photographs better and does not glare under store lighting. We can run half your order in one finish and half in another if you are testing which one your customers respond to before committing to a full print run.

Reorders are common with bookmarks because they get handed out in batches, at a book fair, a Sunday service, a class visit. We keep your file and stock choice on record, so a reorder is a text or an email with a quantity, not a new design conversation. If you change the wording, a date or a quote on the back, send us the update and we proof it again before running, the same check every order gets whether it is your first bookmark run through our shop or your fifteenth in a row.

Bookmarks are a small format, usually two by seven inches or close to it, and the most common mistake is a design built at business card proportions and then just stretched to fit. Text and logos end up distorted, too wide or too tall for the space they are actually printed in. Our file check compares the file's dimensions against the size you ordered before we print, and if something does not match we ask which is right rather than guess and reprint later. We also watch for thin decorative lines running the length of the bookmark, which look fine on screen but can shift slightly during cutting on a narrow format.

The second issue is stock choice. A bookmark printed on regular paper stock curls and creases the first time someone uses it, which defeats the purpose. We default to a heavier cardstock for bookmarks unless a customer specifically wants something lighter for a mailing insert, and we say so on the proof rather than assume. Church groups, schools and dance studios order bookmarks most often from us, usually alongside a program or a bulletin for the same event, and we can run both from one visit so the stock and colors match across the set.
